Attribute points in one skill
Is 12 the maximum effective use of attribute points? I have 14 swordmanship with my rune. Am I wasting points? Should I bring down to 12 and find a place for my other points?
Thanks |

You can only put a maximum of 12 points into a single attribute by using attribute points. However, that doesn't mean the skills stop becoming more effective after 12 points. Lots of Necros use Awaken the Blood in order to hit obscenely high levels of Blood Magic/Curses (as in having 18-19 in them).
However, depending on your build, it may be wise to spread your points out instead of concentrating them. |

If you're a Warrior and want to do damage, you'll generally want as high of a weapon attribute as possible. For PvP, most people would go so far as to get a Superior Rune for their weapon attribute and boost it up to 16.

Use runes and helmets to raise your attribute point level above 12- up to 16 without use from skills or weapons. Some weapons have a 20% chance to get +1 to an attribute while using a skill. Necros have a skill Awaken the Blood that gives +2 to Curses and Blood skills for a certain amount of time. Elementalists also have a glyph that casts their next spell at two attribute points higher than it really is.

It just depends on your level, that is if you have all 200 attribute points, and your build. Generally you do want an attribute in the 14-16 range but some builds require a more spread out attribute range and lowering one from 12 to 11 frees up a lot of points to put elsewhere.
I often run 12 / 12 / 3 (+ bonuses) in builds, such as necromancer, elementalist and mesmer. Others, like ranger, need 3-4 attributes raised up so the highest with bonus may be 12. |
